Who
We Are
CourtsOnLine(COL)
is a seven year-old service business that uses its proprietary
technology to provide clients with specialized business applications
based on electronic access to court record information. For
example, COL provides web-based, online, real-time access to court
case records, including many document images, from Washington,
Oregon, Idaho and the U.S. Bankruptcy courts, and more are on the
way. Access to hundreds of courts is available 24 hours a day,
including holidays. Unless otherwise noted, the case information
obtained has been retrieved directly from the court’s computer
at the time it is requested by a COL client, and is the most
up-to-date available electronically.
What
We Do
COL
makes accessing court records easy. The only requirements for access
are COL technology, a PC with Windows and an Internet connection.
COL then employs its proprietary technology to provide clients with
specialized business applications based on electronic access to court
record information. For example, access to a court case record or
records is gained simply by clicking the COL icon on the PC screen.
After logging on to COL, an Internet connection to the COL facility
is made. Clients are then asked which court(s) to access, whether to
search for all cases for a person or business name, or for a specific
case by its number. Using a connection from the COL facility to the
court computer specified, a search is made and the results returned
to the client’s screen where they may be printed, saved to disk
or e-mailed to an associate. This dialog between the client user,
COL and the court(s) continues until access is no longer required, at
which time the client terminates the session by logging off.
Past
and Future Briefly
COL
is an online information access service started in 2001 by Gary
Vowels, founding President and CEO of CourtLink. COL is privately
owned and operated, and is dedicated to providing the best methods
available for accessing court records while maintaining the most
economical pricing. COL is currently developing access to court
records from more states, adding new features and functionality, and
integrating access to copies of filed documents from additional
courts.
